This workshop will explain and clarify issues and topics associated with a study program for taking the PMP exam. The workshop leaders are experienced presenters and possess excellent knowledge of the subject matter they'll be presenting. Each workshop instructor is both a certified PMP and a practicing project/program manager.

This is a five day comprehensive course based on the PMBOK® Guide 5th Edition. It is designed to assist participants in passing the Project Management Institute (PMI) PMP® Certification Exam and give you the 35 contact hours you will need to qualify.

Testimonials from the Past PMP Exam Prep Class Hosted by St. Louis PMI Chapter

“Taking the PMI St. Louis Chapter PMP Prep Class  was an amazing experience. Not only did they provide the tools and study material needed to succeed, the energy of the instructors as well as the attendees was outstanding and very motivating. I believe that it was very good education that helped clear the exam on first try and also can be put in use in everyday IT project lifecycle.” - - - - - - - Vinita Ramchandani, PMP (attended Summer 2011 PMP Exam Prep Class)

Although I had taken a week-long state sponsored course, I am convinced I would not have passed the PMP exam on the first try without the benefit of the PMI-STL chapter course. The insight and experience of the instructors (and some of the students) was invaluable to both passing the exam and making me a better PMP. This was money and time well spent ------ Henry Segalini, PMP

The Spring PMP Prep class provided a wealth of information giving us the tools needed to succeed. Having taken and passed the PMP several years ago - I wasn't looking forward to doing it again!! The speakers were prepared and the training materials were excellent. The books, flash cards, practice questions and practice exam were exactly what was needed. This was a fraction of what other preparatory courses charge. The networking and interaction with fellow students was also great! ----- Karen Bishop, PMP

The PMI St. Louis Chapter PMP Prep Class was a valuable investment in learning how to study for the PMP exam. I loved the format and pace of the class. The class was focused on what I need to know to pass the PMP exam and gave me a great foundation for studying. There was a synergy amongst the attendees and many have developed long term friendships. I suggest this class to anyone who is taking the PMP exam ----- Cyndee Morton

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. I have not had any prior (formal) PMP education and am wondering if by taking the PMP Prep Course that it would prepare me for taking the certification exam?

A. Yes, this class will prepare you to take the exam and give you the 35 contact hours you will need to qualify. You will also need to have quite a number of experience hours from your work history to qualify as well.

Q. How many people are typically in the class?

A. We typically have 20 to 30 students in a class.

Q. Does the PMP Prep Class provide both Contact Hours and PDUs?

A. You will be eligible for 35 contact hours upon completion of this course. Contact hours are for those people who are not yet a PMP.  You only get PDUs when you have passed the exam, and earned your PMP certification. In other words, you don't get to "double dip". You cannot earn both Contact Hours and PDUs from the same class.

Q. What is the recommended length of time before finishing the course and taking the exam?

A. As part of the course, we recommend the students set up study groups. These groups are usually based on geography. We have found these study groups crucial to success is maintaining a schedule to complete the study of the 10 knowledge areas, and 5 process groups.

Most students organize their group to cover portions of the PMP Exam Prep book per week. There are 12 chapters, so I would plan on 6 to 8 weeks study time prior to taking the exam.

Q. Is there anything I need to bring or prepare for the class?

A. Just bring yourself and a pencil to take notes. We will hand out the class materials on the first morning. You will receive:

  • PMBOK® Guide 5th Edition
  • Velociteach’s InAct Advantage Kit
    • Andy Crowe’s “Pass the PMP 5th Edition” textbook
    • Student Workbook
    • Study Flash Cards
    • Quick Reference Guide
    • CD Series “Conversations on the PMP Exam”
    • 3 Month Access to Insite.com (Online Study Aid with Unlimited Practice Questions)

Q. What are the eligibility requirements to sit for the exam?

A. You need to go to the Global PMI web site to view the eligibility requirements.

http://www.pmi.org/en/Certification/Project-Management-Professional-PMP.aspx

You will need to complete the application process, and be qualified to take the exam (some applications are audited). Then, you can register (and pay the fee) to take the exam.
